First full Week of Program

We have 8 clients, mostly men in their twenties, one 58 years old. They are mostly from small villages, shopkeepers, farmers, a police constable. Some are from Amritsar. Our first big hurdle was translators. We have made good progress in that arena. All at this point are volunteers, teachers from the local school, Miri Piri Acadamy, recent graduates from that school, all oriented toward service. None are professional translators. Neither translating nor being translated is an easy project. Some translators insist on injecting their own ideas into a teaching or counseling session, some struggle to find the right word to convey the meaning, taking many paragraphs to convey a simple (in English) sentence. Impacting with language becomes more difficult. Sometimes the speaker gets lost, sometimes the client, sometimes the translator. I trust that over time, as we get better at working with each other, things will improve.
